SIBU: As if baby-dumping was not heartless enough, members of the public here were outraged by the discovery of a dead infant discarded like rubbish on the roadside Tuesday night.

INHUMANE: A CID officer checks on the dead
infant dumped at a roadside in Rejang Park.

The remains of the newborn boy was suspected to have been thrown from a moving motorcycle or car onto a side lane in Rajang Park. It was wrapped in several sheets of newspaper and put inside a plastic bag.
However, it was believed that the body fell out of the bag while it was thrown away and the newspaper wrappings loosened up, exposing the body.
“The act of the parents is not only heartless, it is totally inhumane. We feel hurt to see the infant being treated that way,” said a member of the public.
It was not known at this stage whether the parents were the perpetrators.
The dead infant was first discovered by a woman shopowner at 10pm when she was about to go home after closing up for the day.
The parcel in the dim light caught her attention.
When she went closer to inspect, she was shocked to find the body of an infant.
Both the police and a medical team from the hospital arrived at the scene in response to her call.
The police dispatched a team from the criminal investigation department (CID) on  the possibility that the baby could be murdered.
However, following investigation at the scene, they did not indicate whether foul play was involved in the death of the infant.
It was also not ruled out that the infant might have died in birth but the police are waiting for a post mortem to determine the actual cause of death.
Words in the new
1. dispatched : send off promptly
2.  foul play : Unfair or treacherous behavior (especially involving violence)
3. post mortem : An examination and dissection of a dead body to determine cause of death or the changes produced by disease
